Marko and Kathryn, Stones of the Yarra Valley

Stones of the Yarra Valley, Marko and Kathryn

I met Marko and Kathryn at a little cafe near my home in Northcote. We immediately hit it off, they were a super fun couple who were enamoured with one another. They told me how they were looking for a house to buy, my husband sells houses in the area they were looking to buy. Would you believe it, my husband sold them their first house and they got possession the same week they were married.

I felt so honoured to be involved in their wedding day and it was stunning.

Below is this beautiful couples snapshot of their wedding day.

How did you meet?
We met at our friends’ wedding; one of my best friends married one of Marko’s best friends. The wedding was in Perth – I was living in Brisbane at the time, Marko was in Melbourne – so we met on the other side of the country!

Why did you choose your reception and ceremony location?
When I first moved to Melbourne in August 2016, Marko took me to Stones of the Yarra Valley for my birthday – we had an amazing lunch and ever since then, Stones has been a special place for us… we always imagined it would be the perfect place to get married!

What was the most important element for you to have in your wedding?
Our nearest and dearest – both sides of the family and all of our oldest friends.

How did you choose what to wear?
My (then future) sister-and-law let me know that Suzanne Harward was having a sample sale so I made an appointment and ended up buying the first dress I tried on!

Tell me all about the proposal?
Marko proposed on the beach at Wineglass Bay, on the east coast of Tasmania, mid-way through an epic bushwalk. It was very special because I was born in Tassie and Marko knew what it would mean to me to be proposed to in my home state.

What style helped to shape your reception and where did you get your inspiration?
Our reception was very much informed by the venue and its beautiful natural surrounds – so we didn’t need to go over-the-top with styling. I also love Australian natives so the florals were an easy decision.

How did you choose your suppliers? Who were the stand out suppliers on the day?
Our suppliers were all recommended by the venue. Standout suppliers were our celebrant, photographer and videographer.

Why did you decide to marry?
Because we’re not getting any younger! But seriously, we wanted to celebrate our relationship, make a formal commitment to each other and share the experience with our family and friends.

What was an absolute stand out on your wedding day?
The ceremony – it was incredibly special and very emotional for both of us.

What advice would you offer to future brides?
Keep it simple! You will be so overwhelmed with the love of your family and friends on the day that nothing else will matter.

What supplier did you book first and why?
Our photographer because it was very important for us to capture beautiful imagery of the day.

Is there anything you would change about your wedding day?
Not a single thing.

What was the most stressful part of the wedding planning process?
Honestly, nothing was overly stressful. Finding a recovery session venue was probably the hardest part!

Did you both equally plan the wedding together or did one person have more input?
We were equally involved – Marko was more interested in the music and I was more interested in the florals – but everything else was 50/50. The one supplier I had to convince Marko of was videography – which we’re both so glad we went ahead and booked!

Did anything go wrong on the day of your wedding?
The weather turned just as our ceremony was kicking off which made for very cold and wet photos!
